The subject of adolescents breaking gender stereotypes fascinated me when I noticed how adolescents’ behaviour today don’t conform to the gender stereotypes that were created by society many moons ago. I have decided to consider how subverting gender stereotypes can help shape an individual’s identity, the reasons behind breaking gender stereotypes and how some people may disagree with it.
I searched for secondary material on the internet about gender stereotypes and how it has been a big issue in today’s adolescents. There was limited research on the specific topic I have chosen, but it has helped me develop the questions that would be valuable to my primary research.

I chose this topic because i was interested in the way photo sharing sites impact adolescene and what kinds of impacts it has on the individual. As
selfie’ as they are more popularly known online, are highly popular especially among younger internet users and celebrities. The rise in this style of image is ubiquitous across social media and photo sharing sites especially Instagram. The rise in selfies seems to have been massively fueled by forward-facing cameras on mobile-phones. There is little other reason for having these cameras apart from video-calling. he ease of taking selfies and the instantaneous ability to share with thousands or millions of followers. Being able to instantly show “Look where I am! Look what I’m doing! Look at what I look like!” is exciting and addictive for many internet users.
Technology is changing so fast that even small generational gaps are meaningful in how we view ‘normal.’”
