Strategies for speaking skill improvemenT

“If you want your English to be understood by foreigners, you have to pronounce the last sounds”. It’s what a native teacher said when I first attended class. So, how can foreigners understand you? How can you master your own English? Have you given it much thought? The key is partly in your SPEAKING SKILL, right? Today, I’m gonna share with you guys some of my experience as suggestions of a language learner. First of all, I would like you to try a very relaxing way. That’s LEARNING ENGLISH THROUGH SONGS. It’s not just about the feelings and comfort! Actually, it’s an effective way to listen and open you mouth to chew the lyrics EXACTLY. The rhythm is certainly what you look for to improve your intonation. Secondly, I’m gonna tell you a simple way but it really requires your patience and hard word, not your laziness. Have you tried reading out loud a piece of information (maybe in newspaper or in a book, any kind of English book) as soon as you wake up in the morning or before you go to sleep? I’m sure that it would enhance your speaking skill WITHIN 1 MONTH. I was chewing every morning and I could see signs of improvement. Last but not least for your speaking skill, you should be extrovert rather than introvert. I mean it would be better for you to socialize more often, joining some English speaking clubs and contests, activities in or out of this school or gathering in groups to talk and share and discuss topics. It could be awesome, right? You shouldn’t just keep yourself away from others. Staying in your hostel or your room is just killing your activeness and flexibility. Your speaking skill, your confidence and even your relationship… are they what you are trying to hold? If YES, so DON’T BE SHY, DON’T BE AMBARRASED, DON’T BE AFRAID OF MAKING MISTAKES, YOU HAVE TO SPEAK BEFORE YOU SUCCEED! That’s just some suggestions. Hope you guys have good English in the coming time. Thanks for your

The communication process is complete only when the message sender and the message receiver understands the message. After the first class of interpersonal communications, that is, the course being a pre-requisite for Nursing courses, I realized that expressing my points of views in an effective way enhances the conversation. While having a group discussion in the classroom, I choose to be silent because of my shyness. Even though I know what to say I cannot express it in my words. I start mumbling and sometimes pronounced words incorrectly. I need to work on these skills things so that I will not won…

The second issue I want to mention is that I am really bad at using the correct vocabulary for each topic. For instance, when I have already found out the ideas for my topic, I still have difficulty in choosing the right words to express my ideas. The reason is simply because I came from a different country where English is even not the second language. Once again, to solve this problem, I need to get accustomed with the language, with the culture here. I have to read as possible as I can because it is the fastest and only way for me to obtain enough vocabulary for public speaking.…

Try tongue twisters. Start off slowly, and gradually build up until you say them at normal conversation speed. When speaking them, exaggerate the words, making your tongue, jaw and lips work hard. As you become surer of them, begin to project your voice and exaggerate the words more. This helps you gain skill.…

When I came to the USA, I thought life would be easier than what I found out. I thought that living in the U.S would be easy and interesting. I thought that speaking English would be familiar to me because I learned English in my country at school, but to speak the language was very far from what I learned, and it became a big problem for me. At first, I had a problem in distinguish words during the conversation with native speakers. I had to ask them to repeat themselves for many time till I got it. In addition, I was using many words from my native language during the conversation unintentionally. Second I could not find a job because no one accepted to hire non English speaker. I even couldn’t watch TV or listen to the radio. My lack of English made my life a lot harder that`s why I decided to enroll in the college and learning English.…
