Introduction and How to Study Science: These sections include important information about general scientific subject matter and specific information about effectively studying science and conducting science experiments. Read these sections carefully and take them to heart! How to Perform an Experiment and Laboratory Equipment and Techniques: Adhering to the procedures described in these sections will greatly facilitate experimental activities. The laboratory techniques and equipment described primarily apply to full-scale experiments and formal laboratories; however, knowledge of these items is important to a basic understanding of science and is relevant to home-based experimentation. How to Write Lab Notes and Lab Reports: Like all serious scientists, you must record formal notes detailing your activities, observations, and findings for each experiment. These notes will reinforce your learning experiences and science knowledge and provide the basis from which you will prepare Lab Reports for your instructor. This section explains how these documents should be organized and prepared. Safety Concerns: The Basic Safety Guidelines and Safety Reinforcement Agreement are the most important sections of this lab manual and should be reviewed before each experiment. The safety sections are relevant to both laboratory and…

Astronomy is the study of moons, planets, stars, galaxies, nebulae, their many features and properties, and situations that happens outside of Earth. The study was dated back to the times of the Egyptians, however their beliefs in God prevented them from further looking into the universe, because to them God controlled the universe so why would they try to understand it. When the Greeks came along, and they were able to find out that the Earth was spherical, one notable scientist that helped in this discovery was called Eratosthenes, he was also the person that invented the system of latitude and longitude we know today, Eratosthenes was the first to calculate the Earth’s circumference by using the length stadiums as his measurement system. Considering the lack of advance technology back in his days, his calculation was very accurate, his circumference was only missing 300 kilometers of today’s accepted value (40,075 kilometers). Copernicus was also not the first person to propose the idea that the Earth revolves around the sun, however his proposal was during the time of the Scientific Revolution, a time when people are more open-minded to new ideas and have access to tools…

This website is an overview of the history, mythology, and current scientific knowledge of the planets, moons and other objects in our solar system. Each page has our text and NASA's images, some have sounds and movies, most provide references to additional related information. In association with our friends at Solar System Scope we now have an interactive tour of the solar system (takes a while to load and opens in a new window)All eight planets can be seen with a small telescope; or binoculars. And large observatories continue to provide much useful information. But the possibility of getting up close with interplanetary spacecraft has revolutionized planetary science. Very little of this site would have been possible without the space program. Nevertheless, there's a lot that you can see with very modest equipment or even with just your own eyes. Past generations of people found beauty and a sense of wonder contemplating the night sky. Today's scientific knowledge further enhances and deepens that experience. And you can share in it by simply going out in the evening and looking up. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . The IAU has changed the definition of "planet" so that Pluto no longer qualifies. There are now officially only eight planets in our solar system. Of course this change in terminology does not affect what's actually out there. In the end, it's not very important how we classify the various objects in our solar system. What is important is to learn about their physical nature and their histories. Planet Order from the Sun…
