Importance of Information Technology in Business World
1.0 INTRODUCTION

Information technologies (IT) are vital to Company operations. They are tools that improve the quality and efficiency of our work. They are the repositories for critical and sometimes highly proprietary corporate information. The improper access to or the destruction of these resources will have serious consequences for the Company. The strategic use of information technology can help organizations increase their competitive advantage and make considerable improvements in operating performance.

Developing a business strategy with an IT component that is aligned with business objectives, and is supported by sound business justification, will enable organizations to improve performance, increase productivity, and serve customers more effectively. It will also help mitigate the risks involved with technology decisions.

I had interviewed a person which is an IT Officer position in an organization. He is Mr. Anez Simon from Green Shipping Company in Kota Kinabalu. The interview was done at his workplace after office hours in order not to interfere with his work during office hours.

1.1 COMPANY BACKGROUND
Green Shipping Sdn. Bhd. beginnings in the shipping business in 1971 with the initial objectives to venture into the shipping industry to provide a regular and efficient supply of vessels for the forestry industry exports from Sabah as well as to support the government’s policy to increase Malaysian participation in the maritime sector.

The company has since grown and diversified in their range of services provided with a well strategize approach, including a COA with Petronas for the carriage of their chemical products, and other oil majors. Green Dua Shipping Sdn. Bhd. was incorporated in 1980 to participate in the Tanker and Off-Shore business.
The Company is a Petronas licensee for the provision of offshore support vessels. The Company is managed by a team of capable and professional personnel with

    There are many advantages of aligning business and IT strategies. For most companies aligning the business and IT a strategy are both a necessity and gives a competitive advantage.
