MSc Honours Programme in Business Research

Internationalisation of the labour market, global economic crisis, and a consequent shortage of vacancies are making it increasingly difficult for fresh business studies’ graduates to enter the work force.
Corporate recruitment agencies have already shifted their focus from students representing the well-know Dutch “six-culture”, and are now targeting only top graduates. Academia has also toughened its recruitment requirements. The mere passion for research no longer determines candidates’ acceptance for a PhD position. An increasing number of Dutch universities and universities abroad are asking from their PhD applicants possession of advanced research training and research experience, as well as written work already published or presented at international conferences.

The four pillars of National Honors Society, scholarship, service, leadership, and character, have paved a path for me as a student and as a person. Scholarship has taught me to strive to be the best student I can be. I use scholarship to keep up with my school work and never give up when a class is hard. I always strive for the best grade I can get and I will stop at nothing until I reach my goal. I will continue to use scholarship as I go to college and pursue my dream as a pediatric dentist. I will study, I will learn, and I will never give up no matter what happens along the way. I use service when I volunteered to help my local private school. I was never asked to do so, but I felt as if I was giving back to a school that had done so much…

The reason why this program appeals to me is that I will get to visit a place that I have never seen before. I will be able to view the German culture without stereotypes, and also live in the culture and learn from it. It would be like learning about a whole new world. When I go back home from Germany, if I get selected, I’ll be able to share whole new culture with my school peers. Most of my peers have never traveled past neighboring states, let alone the country. In turn, I would tell the people I would meet in Germany about my own culture and explain the American quirks and behaviors. I enjoy sharing my own culture with people who have never experienced it. My personality has always been adventurous, and I always enjoyed visiting new places…

The mission of the Honors College is something that represents the environment I enjoy and thrive in. Firstly, the community surrounding education and conversation is something unique and truly mesmerizing. I know that I am in a good place when my peers thoroughly enjoy discussing a multitude of topics, regardless of who they are, what they’re studying, and where they’ve come from. The Honors College is one of these places that gives everyone a voice and the ability to generate open discussions on various topics. Also, the undergraduate research that the Honors College provides will enable me to continue connecting with professors and delve into my passions within my major. Mr. Bill Robinson, an Associate Professor of Management in the Krannert School, is an example of a professor that I see myself bonding with over our interest in new product development. The opportunities to learn alongside professors and seek extra help when needed, is beneficial to learning wholeheartedly. Thirdly, the value student leadership is a wonderful aspect of the Honors College. As Claire Lee, a current Honors College student said in the informational video about leadership development within the program, “student leadership combines the academics at Purdue with the real world experience.” The ability to apply knowledge…
