James L. Wu Dear Delegates of HMUN India 2012, Welcome to the Second Session of Harvard Model United Nations India! It is my distinct pleasure to welcome you as delegates to the vibrant city of Hyderabad to simulate one of the World’s most important international bodies, the United Nations. Harvard Model United Nations is currently entering its 60th session in Boston and has joined with Worldview Education Services and its brand, MunCafe to bring six decades of Model UN excellence to the Indian Subcontinent. Since the coneption of HMUN India in 2010, our staff has been innovating topics and committees, researching and writing, and planning all of the excitement that you will experience this August. Harvard Model United Nations India is excited to simulate 12 of the organization’s most important committees from the General Assemby, Economic and Social Council, and Specialized Agencies, as well as important regional bodies. There are many innovative and exciting committees and topic areas to be discussed during the three-day conference, including A Nuclear Free Middle East in the Disarnament and International Security Committee; upcoming challenges to global sustainability in Futuristic Committee on Poulation and Development, 2100; and exciting crisis elements in the Security Council, and Exiled Revolutionaires, 1850. Many of you are veterans of the Model UN circuit, many of you are only attending your first or second conference ever. Regardless, I know that there is something new for each of you: new experiences in committee, new viewpoints on the world’s most important issues, and new friendships to be made. One of my favorite parts of HMUN has always been the opportunity to meet people from around the world, sharing in your mutual interests, while respectably debating your differences. I encourage each and every one of you to take advantage of the resources of this conference and get to know your directors, your fellow delegates, and the Secretariat. All of the Directors have done a tremendous amount of work to putting together these comprehensive study guides. It is a reflection of their dedication to the conference and their passion for the issues. I hope that you will take the time to think carefully and critically about the issues raised. Consent resources like teachers, professors, libraries, newspapers, and fellow students to formulate your opinions on the issues, and your country’s positions. I have found that the best delegates are the ones who not only have memorized their country’s positions, but also have taken the time to understand the reasoning and arguments that underlie all positions. I am incredibly excited for the upcoming conference and cannot wait to get to meet all of you. Sincerely,

Dear Delegates, I could not be more thrilled and honored to welcome you as your Director to the Special Political and Decolonization Committee at Harvard Model United Nations India 2012! I am incredibly excited to have the opportunity to engage and grapple with two critical and fascinating areas of conflict in international relations with you. The Special Political and Decolonization Committee, as one of the classic General Assemblies, is...
