4. Young Hamlet is grieving because he j lost his father. His mother also just remarried to his uncle which he views as incestry. Claudius and Gertrude treat his grief as shameful. Scene 4:
1. Hamlet strongly dislikes the drunken revelry. King Claudius is hosting a party due to the new marriage, trumpets are blasting which causes them to not know what time it is. This is a tradition which Hamlet doesn’t like because it causes other countries to think less of Denmark because of the rather foolish and outrageous partying. He refers to them as drunkards.
2. One of the most immediate feelings was that Hamlet wasn’t sure whether he was seeing his father’s spirit or if someone was trying to trick him. His loyalties are conflicted. On the other hand he wishes to believe his father.
3. Horatio doesn’t want Hamlet to follow the ghost because he is afraid that the ghost will either harm or kill Hamlet.
Scene 5:
1. The Ghost tells Hamlet that Claudius poured poison into his ear and caused his death.
2. The Ghost wants Hamlet to seek revenge on Claudius and kill him. However, he wishes for Hamlet to spare his mother.
3. Hamlet makes Horatio and Marcellus swear that they will keep the incident with the ghost a secret because he is thinking of plotting some sort of revenge on Claudius.

“Keep within the rear of your affection / Out of the shot and danger of desire” (1.3.34-35), and with this metaphor Laertes is trying to further scare his sister by comparing love to a battle, desire to an arrow-shooting enemy. No matter how virtuous a woman thinks she is, she will not escape “calumnious strokes” (1.3.38), he tells her; and there is the theme of his being concerned with the family honor again. He is worried that if Ophelia spends too much time with Hamlet, even if it is all innocent, people will talk and consider her ruined. Laertes is very much concerned with what…

Hamlet loved his father, King Hamlet, and it was his death that broke young Hamlet's heart. It is the love he had for his father that brought him to his doom. After King Hamlet's death he appeared as a ghost moving through the castle at one o'clock every morning. When the guards and Horatio, Hamlet's best friend, noticed this ghostly figure, Horatio quite intelligently believed that he could get the ghost to speak with Hamlet. The next day the two guards, Horatio, and young Hamlet were present to speak to the ghost of King Hamlet. The ghost told Hamlet that he was murdered by Claudius, his brother, who had been sworn in as the new king and married his wife, Hamlet’s mother, Gertrude. After hearing this, young Hamlet was asked to avenge his father’s death, but in doing so his mother was to remain unharmed. Hamlet, being the loving and devoted son he was, and unable to accept Claudius as the leader to replace his father, accepted King Hamlet’s request. After this encounter, young Hamlet refused to tell the guardsman and Horatio what happened but made it known that he would act like a…

The Shakespearean play, Hamlet, is a story of revenge and the way the characters in the play respond to grief and the demands of loyalty. The importance of Fortinbras and Laertes in the play is an issue much discussed, analysed and critiqued. Fortinbras and Laertes are parallel characters to Hamlet, and they provide pivotal points on which to compare the actions and emotions of Hamlet throughout the play. They are also important in Hamlet as they are imperative to the plot of the play and the final resolution. Hamlet, Laertes and Fortinbras are three young men who are placed in similar circumstances, that is, to avenge their father's deaths. The way the each comes to terms with their grief and how they rise to the call of vengeance is one of main contrasts between the three.…

Late King Hamlet is a well respected majestic character of Denmark, who also lives in fame; the fame he gets as rewards for his good deeds. The battle with Norway is also one of the greatest victories for the country, and until now, King Hamlet is honored and his chivalrous acts are taken into accounts, “As thou art to thyself, such was the very armor…when ambitious Norway combated…” (I.i.59). Seeing his brother Hamlet having all these fames and respects, and happy moments with lovely Queen Gertrude, and young Hamlet, gives Claudius the wrong impressions that, such good life is resulting from when one can control and feel mightier than others. With envy and lust of power, Claudius murders his own brother when he is asleep, and by making a hasty marriage of the queen, instead of young Hamlet, he becomes the new King of Denmark, the benefactor of the throne.…

Question 1: Laertes and Polonius provide several explanations of their reasons for Ophelia to stop seeing Hamlet. Both their opinions appear to be unreasonable, which is evident through their oppressive and restrictive attitudes. Laertes believes Ophelia is beneath Hamlet on social level, therefore he voices that the prince’s, “choice must be circumscribed.” This is unreasonable as Laertes is diminishing Ophelia’s confidence by referring to the fact that Hamlet’s partner will be chosen for him, and Ophelia would not fit this role, or be considered for it. Laertes continues to refer to Hamlet in a negative matter, stating that his, “love,” is, “not permanent,” and, “the perfume and suppliance of a minute,” meaning it is brief, and temporary.…
