Dear Editor,
I am writing in response to the previous letter of the week by Bill Sagar. Bill strongly stated that he considered the six weeks summer holidays children have is too long and could be potentially disrupting their studies. I wish to state that I disagree with this view for the following reasons, firstly children are children and should thus be given a chance to breathe, rest, relax and have fun after the school year and the summer holidays provide a good decent lengthened break for that to occur. Secondly the school year is meant to be coordinated to carefully build up momentum at the start of the school year and then unwind in preparation for the summer break allowing students to get the most out of their studies. I believe that the true causes of interruptions to studies are unsanctioned breaks that occur during the term time. Finally in terms of issues with childcare and boredom I believe that the utilisation of community facilities such as play centres and parents working together in groups to coordinate rotating play dates could be a solution to this however, failing that a more reasonable compromise would be to reduce the summer holidays to four weeks.

How are you doing? I hope that all is well with you.
I am writing to you because I know that you are an avid supporter of Estrick Hospital and as our fun loving local celebrity I was hoping that I could entice you to be the guest speaker at our upcoming charity dinner being held to raise money for a new greatly needed maternity unit.
The charity dinner will be held at the Town Hall on the 23rd February 2013 at 7pm and will include a three course dinner. Should you agree to attending then you would be required to give a 30 minute talk and draw the raffle.
It would be our greatest pleasure if you could spare some time to help support Estrick hospital and be our
