1. In context to “SECOND AMENDMENT vs GUN CONTROL” and Chapter 6 I have chosen conflict theory to explain why it is so difficult for congress to pass gun control laws. The reason I choose to use conflict theory is because I regard “Power and social inequality as the main characteristics of society.”(Henslin 168) by this I believe the power elites of the U.S.A would like to keep the current gun control laws the same and use the criminal justice system to “maintain their power and privilege.”(Henslin 168). the right to bare arms is a right of the people and by trying to change laws associated with that right people hold the potential to overthrow the current social order and the power elites so I believe that congress will not pass new gun control laws because it threatens the power of the powerful and wealthy such as the power elites.
2. Personally if I was president of the U.S.A a few preventative measures I would purpose in order to tackle mass shootings would first be to have every student in every school around the country be required to see a doctoral psychologists within the school to ensure that students are receiving the right influences from family and friends and also to ensure their mental health is in key condition. Secondly I would require all businesses or events that have 100 plus people at a given time be supervised by a police officer or a trained armed security officer to ensure the safety of the people. Third and lastly being president of the U.S.A I would require that all gun owners throughout the country have a gun safe which would house their guns while not in practical use so that unqualified subjects can not get there hands on them for example the Sandy Hook elementary school shooting.
