Creative Thinking and Natural/Mental Orders Worksheet

Part 1:

Creative Thinking
Construct as many metaphors as you can about five different things that describe any aspect of your life, such as someone you know, something you do, some place you have been, or anything else. Refer to Activity 7.1, located in Ch. 7 of Thinking, for examples on how to create metaphors. Example:

Event /Person/Place: Mother
Metaphor: A mountain in the mist; Strong and everlasting; A blanket of safety and comfort.

1. Person: Offspring
a. Metaphor: Ray of sunshine, my compass in the dark, the air I breathe, pictures in frame, my life 2. Person: Parent
a. Metaphor: My earthly rock, voice of comfort, loved dearly, pillow during hard times 3. Place: Escape
a. Metaphor: Resting place, excitement, doing as I please, road trip, traveling to a place unknown 4. Event: Affection
a. Metaphor: Camera full of memories; joy and pain, sunshine and rain, union, one-flesh 5. Event: Dejected
a. Metaphor: Shadow, trouble over water, alone in the woods, darkness with no light, in search of

Part 2:

Natural/Mental Orders
Organize two sets of information using natural and mental orders. Refer to the “Natural/Mental Orders” section in Ch. 8 of Thinking for additional guidance. Example:
Type of Organization: Natural Order: Chronological
Example: Seeds grow into plants, flower or fruit, produce more seeds, fall to the ground, take root, and produce another plant

Chronological order:
1. Birth to old age: born, toddler, young child, adolescents, young adult, middle adult, older adult, senior. 2. Boiling spaghetti: fill pot with boiling water for noodles, measure noodles for the amount, 1 tsp olive oil and 1 tsp of salt, once water starts to boil add ingredients to boiling water. Stir constantly until noodles become limp. Once noodles are done rinse in cold water, then reheat and serve. Causal order:
