c MVC Theatre Department play produced the play, Comic Potential. It was written by Alan Ayckbroum. Comic Potential was performed in the Performance Hall of Mountain View College in the East Campus. MVC Theatre Department performed it. I attended the play on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at 7:30. The plot of Comic Potential is Adam teaching Jacie, a robot, emotions and wanting to make a show with her, but Carla does not allow it and wanted Jacie’s memory to be erased. Adam felt he had no other option than to run away with Jacie and doing so, they ended up falling in love. The setting of the play started in a TV Studio in the daytime during work hours. Other settings of the play took place at The Grand Hotel in the evening after work hours. Multiple scenes happened in different parts of the Hotel like its boutique, restaurant, and bedroom. They later moved on at a sleazy hotel that night. The characters screamed to show anger and laughed to represent humor. Carla made her voice snotty to show she was the one above everyone who worked at the TV Studio. The actoids deepened their voices to interpret the sadness and seriousness of the situations going on in their show. The dramatic language was primarily dialogue. The language helped support the robots doing a scene for a TV show and the rest of the characters directing it or being part of the Studio crew. The theme in the play was being a robot and human does not have to set them apart. In today’s world if you are not a human you are property of some sort, for example, animals. Another theme is that people go through extraordinary lengths to protect the person or things they love and would do crazy things to keep them. Proscenium Configuration was used for the audience. It was appropriate, because there was nothing going on behind the scenes and everything was in one piece. I do think it was well cast for the most part.
