Column over "End of the World - 2012"

      2012: the year of destruction or so many think. As the year comes to a close, internet websites and people alike are all a buzz about this one particular day. The day the Mayans predicted the world would end- Dec. 21, 2012 to be exact. Most of what people hear about this is rumors and lies; no one really knows when it will end. People think the end of the Mayan calendar might be the beginning of a new era, and some think it could be the end of the world. Scholars report that the calendar doesn’t have any significant meaning to the date they set. I don’t believe the world will end just because of what the Mayans say. Just because they correctly predicted the length of the lunar moon, do you really think that they can predict the end of our days?
      You may believe in what the Mayans have to say but I believe only God has the power to end the world, not some stupid calendar that some ancient group made up a long time ago when they were sitting around bored. In the Bible, Matthew 24:36 states, “No man knows the hour or the day of the end of the world.” So how could they possibly know when it’s going to end and who did they get their information from? I bet they aren’t credible.
      Nobody ever believed or paid attention to what the Mayans believed until they saw that the calendar predicted an ending and now, all of a sudden, people are asking questions and starting to believe in something that just might not be true. Is it all just hype or something for us to talk about?
      Debates on what will happen on this day can be found in many places. I searched the internet for myself and found articles that say all different types of things. Some say on that day, the sun will align with the plane of the galaxy, throwing the Earth off-balance and changing the world tremendously. We will no longer be aligned with the sun! Another article I found states that the sun aligns itself with the plane twice a year so this can’t happen anyway. Talk about... [continues]
