The Civil War which lasted from 1861 to 1877 was mainly caused by the diverging society between the North and the South. The North and the South had different goals. There were many factors that led to the war and the chief ones were political and economic differences between the North and the South. The North's aggression to control the South had led to the point where it was intolerable. The issue on slavery was one of the cause of the Civil War. Slavery and slave trades had become a big part of the South's economy. The slaves were needed to work on plantations which helped the South prospered. During the 19th Century, the North worked hard on abolishing slavery which they thought was an disgrace to the Union. Compromises were proposed working toward an end to slavery. One of the compromises was the Missouri Compromise which made Maine, a free state, and Missouri, a slave state, excluded slavery from Louisiana Territory and everything above the 36?30?north latitude. Other compromises such as the Compromise of 1850 did pleased both sides. The Compromise included admitting California as a free state and interstate slave trade to be abolished which went in favour of the North. The Compromise also went with the South when it included stricter fugitive slave laws and New Mexico and Utah were created without slave restrictions. A book called, "Uncle Tom's Cabin" was also published at this time emphasising the evils of slavery. This added tension between the North and the South. The compromises seemed to have settled the issue of slavery but it was just putting back the problem. The North and the South were far from settling the slave issue. Another reason that caused the South to go to war was the difference in economic policies. The North was expanding more in the commercial and industrial side while the South was reliant on agriculture. Cities and factories had developed in the North and in the South, it was still staple-producing and agrarian. The North's industry…
During 1861 through 1865 over three million men fought in the Civil War. We did not go to war to end slavery and slavery is what divided us but not in war. The Missouri compromise wanted to settle the issue between sectionalism and nationalism. Slavery is the central conflict in which northern and southern states disagree whether or not to abolish it. Frederick Douglass wrote, “The fact that this is a slaveholder's rebellion and nothing else - all point out that slavery as the thing to be struck down, as the best means of the successful and permanent establishment of peace and prosperity of the nation.” There were many factors that resulted in the uprising of the Civil War, but disagreement over slavery was the main one. Without slavery, our nation would finally establish unity and peace.…
The fighting of the Civil War was the most inevitable event in American history with a loss of thousands of lives. There were many different contributing factors to the start of The Civil War. Five of these causes were the Northwest Ordinance and Missouri Compromise, John Brown’s raid, The 1850 Compromise, The Kansas-Nebraska Act, and the constant conflict between the North and South. The Northwest Ordinance said the there could be no slavery in states north of the Ohio River, however slave holders moved west to new states. This then led to the Missouri Compromise which said no slave states passed the 36 30 degree. John Brown’s raid on the federal arsenal was considered by many to be the cause of the civil war. The 1850 Compromise was also heavily contributed to the start of the civil war. In the compromise New Mexico and…

The Civil War was the bloodiest conflict in American history for many different reasons. The first reason is because it is a Civil War. Anyone who died in the war would for the most part, be an American. This is the reason this was considered a brother v brother war because you could have families who would be split on certain issues and end up having siblings who would fight each other in battle just because of their different issue. The second reason is due to a mix of old-school battle tactics and new weapons.…
You hear the word civil in such terms as civil rights, civilian, civilization and civil liberty. All are related to the concept of a common citizen and a member of society. So, a civil war is a war between citizens representing different groups or sections of the same country. That is how the Civil War in the United States between 1850-1860 started. The distinction of ideas about slavery between the South and the North was pretty much the main cause of the war. However if we look at the details carefully, the economic forces in the South combined with the cotton plantations and the reactions to abolitionism in the South were the main factors that caused the Civil…

The most significant cause of the American Civil War was the inauguration of Abraham Lincoln. Because of Abraham Lincoln’s views on slavery, the emancipation proclamation, and the formation of different parties, the Civil War began. He released a document called the Emancipation Proclamation. In it, he gives several million slaves freedom. He aims the document towards the south. It did…
