The early twentieth century in Russia saw people from many different levels of society experience grievances due to the poor leadership and decision making of Nicholas II. Nicholas failed to see the problems his people were dealing with and was too caught up in keeping Russia under autocratic rule. The grievances the Russian people experienced ranged from political, social and economic. Each social class had different criticisms and issues with the Russian government but the dissatisfaction with the government was a shared feeling all over Russia. The social classes that experienced major grievances included the peasants, industrial workers and the nobility.…

Our team has identified three options for Ceres as it looks to move forward. Option A is to reduce growth to its desired sustainable growth rate by changing some key policies of the GetCeres program, primarily price, credit terms, and discount rate. Option B pursues the agenda of the CEO, who hopes to implement a plan of rapid growth by expanding Ceres’ retailing network. This option includes a 35% increase in sales and our pro-forma statements (Exhibit 1) have identified a need for $2 million in additional financing, to be obtained by issuing new stock, cutting dividends, and further increasing leverage. Option C suggests merging with a cash-cow company, such as a nation-wide retailer. The synergies created will solve the distribution problems and increase market share.…

A society's understanding of its history is crucial to a society's perception and definition of itself. During the 1980s the Soviet Union underwent a cultural revival, whereby the Russian people, prompted by Mikhail Gorbachev's invitation to glasnost (more openness), began critically re-examining Soviet and pre-revolutionary history. As the nation engaged in oral discussions and literary readings to study their past, they started to reassess the Soviet Union's theories and practices. Only through untainted assessments of their history could the Soviets truly grasp the present state of affairs in the 1980s.…

    1. Introduction to the company and its role within the wider international market; including competitors and current market conditions that may impact on its financial performance. Tesco plc is a British multinational grocery and these days the third- largest retailer worldwide in terms of revenues, operating in 14 countries across Europe, Asia and Nord America. The retailer was founded in 1919 and operated exclusively within the UK until the early 1990s when it started diversifying geographically. Tesco in its early years only offered foods and drinks in its stores but then successfully diversified its product range to electronics, books, household appliances, clothes, financial services and telecoms to mention only a few as examples. Tesco employs more than 500,000 people globally in more than 6,500 stores, whereof more than 290,000 people are working in more than 3,000 stores in the UK where Tesco has a market share of around 30 %. Globally Tesco’s main competitors are the US-retailer Wal-Mart and the French retailer Carrefour, in the UK its main competitor became recently Sainsbury’s plc - which is compared regarding its performance to Tesco in the second part of this paper – as well as Asda Stores Ltd. and William Morrisons Supermarkets plc. Recently, Tesco had to struggle with financial problems, especially in the UK where its profits fell for the first time in 20 years (cf. Graham Ruddick, The Telegraph, 30 September 2012) and in the United States where its subsidiary Fresh & Easy only during the first half in 2012 made losses amounting to £ 74,000,000. Generally the retail market is especially due to the high competition quite saturated and the retailers have to struggle with the “challenging economic backdrop” (Justin King, chief executive Sainsbury’s) as well as the external environment which “continues to present challenges all over the world” (Philip Clarke, chief executive Tesco). In the UK Tesco had…

This organizational structure works very efficiently for Carrefour. It delegates, to the major functions of the large corporation, the abilities to handle all of the necessary business dealing requested by each separate division. Allowing each function to know the dealings of each division allows them to compare better how each division is performing compared to the other divisions. This also allows for a more standardized means of coordinating the functions of each division, limiting confusion and overlapping responsibilities. Carrefour has several types of “products” (stores) and is located in over 20 countries, which would make a divisional structure very…
