Arguments that lean towards the death penalty
It is a form of retribution that provides the victim’s family a sense of closure that some kind of punishment has been dealt out to the criminal. Families of victims feel that the criminal should suffer the same fate as the victims. Even the doctrines of the world’s majority religions advocate an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. It is believed that the death penalty helps reduce crime rates. For example in Singapore a drug trafficker is sentenced to death no matter the nationality of the offender. This form of punishment is a violation against basic human rights. What gives lawyers and judges who are mere human beings the right to take another human being’s live. We are not God to play God. Sometimes the court can pass the wrong judgment to the wrong person. In the case of a death penalty judgment, there is no going back once the sentence has been carried out. There have been cases judicial murder has taken place.
