Cango: Strategic Management and Online Gaming
Senior Project

For the week 2 Team report you are to list 6 issues facing CanGo that you gleaned from the week 1 and 2 videos. They should be prioritized in order of importance. They should be numbered.
The team must then come up with an actionable recommendation for each of the issues found. These should also be numbered.

1. CanGo does not have a a concise vision or mission statement that defines who they are as a company. Solution: CanGo needs to find out what market they want to be in and also figure out what market they want to be in, and where they see themselves going as a company and what values they have.

2. CanGo did not approach the strategic planning correctly for the online gaming. They discussed going into a new market with no prior knowledge of how the market operates. They also do not have the proper staff to begin the new business venture. Solution: I think that CanGo should do more research for the online gaming market. I also think that if they decide to go in this new direction that they should outsource some of the work and train some of the people they have on hand to help save costs. Liz needs to sit down and complete all of he steps in the strategic management process, including: SWOT analysis, mission statement, long term goals, implementation, strategic choice, evaluation, revision, and vision statement. Conducting a firm financial analysis of the overall project can prevent and reduce higher costs. Setting short-term and long-term goals will give the team a better outlook on the launch of the online gaming system.

3. Nick’s issue with organization is indicative of a bigger issue; the company does not have a structured approach to scheduling, planning, or reporting progress. Solution: CanGo lacks organization. There should be a better system for filing information, and a clear understanding of what each individual’s responsibilities within the company are. This way they would have a better

Another reason why I agree with their decision to move is that at the moment they are not getting as much profit as they forecasted so clearly operating in a Niche market is not working so it makes sense to move into a mass market and increase their sales which will increase their sales providing their costs do not increase by to much when they are expanding to accommodate all these new customers.…

There are many components of a strategic management process, but there are four main elements. According to Wheelen and Hunger, “strategic management consists of four basic elements: environment scanning, strategy formulation, strategy implementation, evaluation and control” (2010). Environmental scanning is a broad look at things that pertain to the company. Many companies will do a SWOT analysis by analyzing the company’s strengths and the opportunities that the company has and then look at the company’s weaknesses and threats. This information is then distributed to the appropriate individuals for strategy formulation. According to Wheelen and Hunger, “strategy formulation is the development of long-range plans for the effective management of environmental opportunities and threats, in light of corporate strengths and weaknesses (SWOT). It includes defining the corporate mission, specifying achievable objectives, developing strategies, and setting policy guidelines” (2010). Once strategies are formulated, the strategies are implemented. Strategy implementation is putting the strategies into effect by establishing the programs and procedures required to accomplish the tasks. The last element of strategic management is evaluation and control. When a strategy has been implemented, the strategy needs to be evaluated in order to understand if the strategy is accomplishing what it was put in place to do. Sometimes the strategy needs to be adjusted based on the outcome findings and continued monitoring until the strategy performs satisfactorily. All of the components of a strategic management process work together to achieve a desired outcome. An organization needs to have a strategic management process in order to stay competitive and be able to have plans in place to achieve the overall goals of the…
