| Detailed below is a summary of the legislative and regulatory systems that I feel would apply within the teaching environment:
| Health and safety at work act 1974The Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974, also referred to as HSWA, HSW Act or HASAWA, is the UK’s primary piece of legislation covering Occupational Health and Safety in Great Britain. The Health and Safety Executive with local authorities (and other enforcing authorities) is responsible for enforcing the Act and a number of other Acts and Statutory Instruments relevant to the working environment. | Personal Protective Equipment Regulations 1992 (PPE)This piece of regulation governs the requirements for affording protection to its workforce that protects them against one or more risks to their health and safety. PPE may, but not exclusively, come in the form of barrier creams, gloves, clothing, eye protection, Face Masks, Hi Vis clothing, footwear or safety harnesses.
| Management of Health & Safety at Work regulations 1999 (MHSWR)The aim is mainly to improve health and safety management at all places of work.
