How is the concept of homeostasis related to aging and disease? Provide examples to support your thinking. As we age, people are more unable to control their systems, such as their urinary system. When people lose control of their systems, it opens up more risk for disease. 2. When we are dehydrated, we are thirsty and drink water. Is this part of negative or positive feedback control systems? Explain your reasoning. It is negative feedback because when someone is dehydrated, it results in low blood pressure. Once the person drinks water, it restores the body to normal blood pressure and a balance in homeostasis. 3. Why would you have a hard time understanding physiology if you did not also understand anatomy? If one does not understand the parts of the body, they are not going to be able to understand the function of those same parts or the way they interact. People must first understand anatomy to understand physiology because the two are interdependent on each other. 4. Describe the different body cavities.
Cranial cavity – cerebellum, cerebrum, pituitary, occipital, thalamus, hypo thalamus, portions of the brain. Thoracic cavity – heart, lungs, esophagus, trachea, bronchial tubes. 5. Career Focus: What does a dental hygienist do and why would he/she need to know anatomy and physiology? They would need to know so that they could decipher where the trouble for the patient is. Also so that they could correctly fix the problem a patient might have and have a good understanding of why a patient’s body might react a certain way to a type of treatment.
