6 Assumptions of the Andragogical Model

To complete this assignment, you will need to fill in the following boxes:

1. In the first box you will identify one of the 6 Assumptions of the Andragogical Model 2. In the next box you will provide a description of the Assumption you identified. 3. In the last box you will discuss your perspective on how this Assumption differs from the Pedagogical Model. 4. Repeat steps until all 6 Assumptions are identified, described, and discussed. 6 Assumptions of the Andragogical Model | Description of each of the 6 Assumptions of the Andragogical Model | Discuss how your perception of each of these assumptions differs from the Pedagogical Model. | The need to know | Adults need to know why they need to learn something before undertaking to learn it. According to Tough(1979), considerable energy will be invested by adults in looking into what they will gain if learning something on their own and also what negative consequences will occur if they do not learn it. | The need to know in the andragogical model differs from the need to know in the pedagogical model in the way that the learner must only learn what the teacher teaches, in order to advance to the next level. The need to know how what is being learned and how it will apply to you lives is not needed in the pedagogical model. | The learners’ self-concept | In this assumption, adults have a self-concept of being responsible for their own decisions, for their own lives (Knowles, Holton, Swanson, 2012). There is a deep psychological need to be seen as being capable of self-direction by others as well as be treated as such. If others seem to be imposing
