3) Research Report
4) Conclusion

SECTION ONE:
INTRODUCTION AND ADMINISTRATION

1.1 OVERVIEW

Central to all managerial activities is the ability to make informed business decisions. Often the difference between making good decisions and committing blunders lies in how managers go about the decision making process. Hence managers are required to consistently study and analyze issues to ensure that all decisions made are well grounded with facts and strong rationale. In cultivating these habits, managers are required to be aware of and be involved in some form of research activity as and when they make decisions at the work place.

Further, managers often interact with research consultants who are engaged by the organization. It is therefore necessary for managers to discriminate between good and bad studies undertaken by these consultants. Whenever the need arises managers are required to undertake or participate in research to solve problems. In addition, managers are also required to evaluate the findings and value of studies published in professional journals and to be able to adapt to the changing work environment.

It is for these and many other reasons that Applied Business ABR (ABR 794/796) is a compulsory activity and a REQUIRED experience for students prior to the award of the MBA/EMBA by the Graduate School of the Faculty of Business Management, UiTM.

1.2 BUSINESS RESEARCH

Business Research is often described as a “systematic and organized effort to investigate a specific problem (or a few related problems) encountered in a work environment or a given task or a given setting, that need solutions. It is worth mentioning that Applied Business

Analyzing what a company’s weaknesses and strengths are can help in understanding why business research is necessary. It also focuses on problems and issues and solves these issues. The experience I have acquired in trying to establish a start-up company needs extensive research and hard work. In starting any business and wanting it to be successful research of the business, should be made. Knowing exactly what a new business entails and being prepared facilitates decisions that will determine the productivity. The research a new business acquires is first understanding and reading into a situation. Studying an industry and interpreting strategies and patterns allows for a better outlook on business decisions and changes. According to Cooper and Schindler (2011), business planning requires decision making, planning, acquiring, analyzing, and disseminating relevant data, and information in order to maximize the performance of a business. For my start-up business, my partner and I determined there was an open market and decided to create a service that we could offer. The market research we performed also captured the strategies that competitors currently have that we can capitalize on by what they do not offer and create a higher return to our productivity and services. The importance of business research in today’s economy is decisive because it allows for managers to make decisions that impact businesses and provide information that will bring higher returns and productivity. Organizations methods for business research also include using the scientific method. This analysis allows for reporting, descriptive, explanatory, and predictive studies. (Cooper & Schindler, 2011).…

Then you have the summarizing and utilizing stage that leads to finalizing your investigation to put in place your reasoning and implementation for your overall idea (Cooper & Schindler, 2011).…
