One:
1. Ministry Of Peace supports the war. The ministry of Truth promotes slogans that are clearly not the straight truth. The ministry of Plenty controls the food and Winston has no food. The ministry of Love controls punishments. They all perform the opposite of what their names intend. 2. The Victory Gin is foul and cheap but it makes Winston feel better and would imply something worthy of a victor, which it isn't. 3. The irony is that crimes aren’t illegal (nothing is illegal, since there are no laws), but if discovered it was certain that they would be punished by death. 4. It is ironic that she wears this sash when she is having sex with many men, including the main character; the sash contradicts her behavior. 5. The goal of people being sent to Ministry of Love is about Party purity. Once the person has been re-programmed to a state that the Party desires, the person is harmless and there's no need for execution. 6. One of the most grotesque is the brutal killing of those who do not listen to Big Brother, which is a part of the utopia of Oceania. 7. Newspeak is the fictional language spoken in 1984. It was created to limit free thought, freedom, and self-expression. Newspeak is a metaphor of the total dominance of the state. 8. Because Goldstein, the head of the Party himself, is black-haired and brown-eyed, it doesn't fit the Aryan mold at all. 9. Winston believess that “in the end the Party would announce that two and two made five, and you would have to believe it.” Before the end of his rehabilitation with O’Brien, Winston believes this to be true. 10. Things like sports and the lottery because the lottery is one of the most important things in their lives. 11. It is ironic that he chooses not to buy the picture on the wall because it represents everything that he has shown himself to be before this point and by not buying it, Winston is basically denying himself as well as his life.
