The primary mission of colleges and universities should be preparing students for the workforce. (Argumentation)

Nowadays, some people believe that she primary mission of universities is to students to learn knowledge and skills relevant to their future careers, while others contend that universities should focus on the goal of without thinking whether or not it is useful for the workforce. This essay is going to argue that the main function of a university is to provide students with both useful knowledge and skills.
On the one hand, universities indeed teach students a lot of useful information about academic subjects, but no one can deny that this knowledge is not valuable in their workforce. For students, the aim of getting to university is to acquire knowledge and to find a better job. However, if they only focus on study books, this above will not be enough for them to get a good job. Thus ,it is necessary to provide work skills and it is a real meaningful benefit to help students. As far as I am concerned, the needs of students are the most important of all them, and universities should not only build up students knowledge but also give indispensable career skills to students, in other words, that is the reason why universities play a significant role in our society.
On the other hand, there is an opposite view of this issue, and it is a generally accepted viewpoint—universities just teach students useful skills. For instance, the majority of universities take profit as their goal and they do not have a responsibility to help students to use skills in the workplace. Most people believe that if a student is able to finish his or her study , then he or she could use his or her knowledge in the workplace. It is obvious that students need some relevant suggestions for workforce, universities may help students, but if students only focus on their study, then universities would not put extra course to them.
All in all, the basic function of universities

Now, many might argue that college is the only way to secure a good job position and the only reason to get a degree. Jeffrey Selingo, a professor at the University of Arizona and the former editor of the Chronicle of Higher Education, writes that students and their parents prefer to obtain a bachelor's degree designated to a specific area; for example, the most popular today is business. That is why “students and their families, faced with big tuition bills, want to be sure to pick a major that leads to a job after graduation. ” (Selingo) That is to say, parents and students are worried that their investment in education can be wasted and hope to get a return in the future.…

This essay provides an alternative view point to commonly held belief: that one must go to college solely to receive a diploma and find a good job. The viewpoint that this essay expresses is that rather than using “university education” for “a means to an end” (172) with the “end” being a good job, students should instead focus on receiving a meaningful education that will help them define themselves and later allow them to receive a fulfilling job. Dr. Edmundson, the author of this piece, is currently employed by the University of Virginia as an English professor.…

Should students require going to university? Is university the best place for students to become successful person with value job? According to Newman, he believes that students require studying in the university because it is the place to train the intellect and prepare for their future. Moreover, Newman considers that students should study all subjects in the college because these all branches of knowledge are connected together and relate together. When people read the Newman Idea, most people will agree with Newman Idea because the education is very important; and universities have a good educated environment which provides for students. I also agree with Newman Idea when I read this article in the first time. However, I change my idea when I see the result of the society. If people follow Newman’s recommendation, Newman Idea will cause many problems for the society. It also cannot change to the higher education for several reasons: students do not have enough time and money for university, the government will not have enough money to support for students, and society does not have enough employees for unskilled job.…

Traditional notions of education are no longer sufficient to prepare a workforce for a contingent and dynamic world. Currently, we live in an era driven by information, global competition, and new technologies that are changing the way we think, live, and work. The Industrial Revolution was built on machinery, skills and labor; however, the information and knowledge-based revolution of the 21st Century is being built on investment, intellect, and creativity. New jobs are emerging which require a different set of knowledge, skills, and attitudes. To cope with such changes we need continuous education and development of “the human mind and imagination” which, to a large extent, is undertaken by higher education. Higher education can be obtained in the workplace through training by managers and supervisors. It can also be attained through universities, technical school, and continuing education courses.…

On the other hand, I believe that it is more beneficial for students to continue their studies. Firstly, academic qualifications are required in many professions. For example, it is impossible to become a doctor, teacher or lawyer without having the relevant degree. As a result, university graduates have access to more and better job opportunities, and they tend to earn higher salaries than those with fewer qualifications. Secondly, the job market is becoming increasingly competitive, and sometimes there are hundreds of applicants for one position in a company. Young people who do not have qualifications from a university or college will not be able to compete.…

It is generally considered that university is an institution which concentrate on mainly two tasks: one is cultivating people to be professional in their fields, the other is doing further research on certain aspects. These two tasks decide that university focus on theoretical knowledge, but not practical training. What's people looking for in the further education in university? Certainly it's knowledge and most probably the theoretical knowledge. If they are seeking for some practical training, why not they enter some kind of skill-training institution or just find a job, both of which are likely to give them many more chances of practical training than a university can afford. As people don't resort university to get practical training, why should university provide such training which its students would not expect?…
